PEACOCK RANGOLI MADE BY COLORED SAND ON FLOOR-
That's a rangoli (sand art ) made by me on tiled floor.
Rangoli's have a great history originating in India .
Its a sign of welcome, good luck and is often used for decorations occasionally.
It can be in the form of geometric shapes or represent historical events, messages,
deities and are made using colored rice, flowers, or colored sand.
Earlier they were made using atta (flour), haldi (turmeric) and sindoor (vermilion).
These days modern colors have offered a variety and rangoli's are being used
in awareness programs to pass the respective message , mostly the environmental one.
They are generally made on Diwali (the festival of lights) and Holi (the festival of colours),
Pongal, onam, in India.
Its traditionally made by women and the talent is passed on generations to come.
The tradition keeps art alive and interests the children to take part in creative
designing from the very beginning.
